Sources Of Power

By the problem of power we mean the problem of obtaining electricity in plenty to operate the machine in mills and factories fro production of goods on which depends the material prosperity of a country. This problem of power has been very acute in India, especially in West Bengal. With the growth of civilization coal was discovered to be a great source of power. Coal was now used to generate power in mills, factories, trains etc. It is used as fuel for cooking. Besides coal we got now petroleum, natural gas, electricity, solar energy and water power as means of power. Greater use of this source should be made as this source is endless. Other sources may be exhausted at one time or another. Electricity is the most cheapest and convenient source of power. Petroleum is found in few countries and its price has been raised so much that developing and under developed countries find it difficult to obtain it to meet their needs. Electricity is also not abundant. Electricity that is generated in our country is much less than needed. It is generated in two ways- by burning coal which is called Thermal Power and by using water called Hydraulic Power. Electricity is also obtained by splitting atoms. There are very few atomic plants in India.
